On September 8, 2024, the news Tyreek hill detained by the Miami-Dade Police Department sent absolute shocker to the public. Miami Dolphins wide receiver and star player Tyreek Hill was stopped by the police for traffic violation. Soon the situation of initial argument escalated into a detainment of Tyreek Hill. The incident occurred as Hill was driving to the stadium for a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The police initially pulled Hill over for speeding. According to authorities Hill was reportedly driving at 60 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone. Bodycam footage was released by the police which shows officers approaching Hill’s vehicle and informing him of the speeding violation.

Hill, in response, asked the officers to “give me my ticket so I can go,” indicating he was concerned about being late for the game.

Why was Tyreek arrested?

Police officer stopped him for speeding. When he goes near the car (pulled over by Tyreek), the police officer asked, “Why aren’t you wearing your seat belt?” Tyreek is seen saying something which is not audible in the video footage and suddenly rolled up the window pane. Officer knocked the window and said, “Keep your window down. Keep your window down or I gonna get you out of the car.” Tyreek initially did not respond but second time he rolled it down a little that may be due to the fear that public will gather around him as it was explained by his agent.

The situation escalated quickly when Hill rolled up his window after speaking with the officers. This prompted the other officer to become agitated, ordering Hill to “get out of the car right now.” Within less than a minute of the initial interaction, officers forcibly removed Hill from his vehicle and pinned him to the ground, with one officer heard saying, “When we tell you to do something, you do it”.

What was the discussion between police officers and Tyreek?

During the detainment, Hill was heard on the phone with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, saying, “Hey Drew, I’m getting arrested.” He expressed disbelief at the situation, stating, “If I wasn’t Tyreek Hill, Lord knows, I probably would have been shot or would have been locked up”. Hill’s agent described the incident as “heartbreaking” and “upsetting,” emphasizing that Hill was simply trying to get to work and do his job.

Tyreek is seen saying that he was getting out of the car himself. The officer said,” too late, too late.” Tyreek said that do what you want to do, I will see you in the court and policeman replied “Stop crying.” Then they handcuffed him behind and he is seen very disturbed.

Public reaction on Tyreek arrest:

Hill was asking what has happened actually and suddenly a policeman grabbed him from back very roughly and pushed him down to the pavement. Public is saying that it was all unnecessary and the way they pushed him again. Tyreek loudly says that he got his knee surgery done again and again but nobody was listening to him.

Another SUV vehicle stops near-by of his teammate, Calais Campbell, was also detained when he pulled over to de-escalate the situation and he protested for Tyreek being manhandled. All the police officers started moving towards him. The same police man, who initially stopped Tyreek (as seen in the video footage) asked for the license of a man.
