
Recently India has cleared its stand to oppose Pakistan’s entrance into the alliance of Brazil Russia India china and South Africa. The official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Mr. Arindam Bagchi informed the media in his press conference in reply to one of the questions. The BRICS has a history of making all the decisions by consensus. Due to a long-standing history of strained relationships, India might exercise its veto. Other geopolitical factors may become hurdles to Pakistan’s application and intent to join this multi-continental organization.
BRICS
The group came into existence following the first informal meeting during a meeting of the leaders of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) countries on the sidelines of the G8 Outreach Summit in St.Petersburg, Russia, in 2006. Later that year, it was formalized during the 1st BRIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New York. The first BRIC (BRICS minus South Africa) summit was held in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
